Regular Events For LAM Members

We provide a programme of events throughout the year, ranging from training and development opportunities to social activities.

What follows are the regular events that we maintain each year, in addition there are numerous runs,rides and trips that are organised throughout the year which are advertised individually on the LAM Forum, in Tracker and our Magazine – Progress.

Group Meetings
Each month there are two Group Meetings which offer the opportunity for Associates and Members to arrange for an Observed Ride (OR) with an Observer. Full Members can also organise short ride-outs: destination and duration agreed on the day.

Associate Only Runs (AOR)

These take place on the 2nd Saturday of each month and offer an opportunity for Associates to practise their advanced riding skills on rides lead by experienced members. The individual ride details can be found on Tracker, the LAM Forum and in the monthly diary in this magazine.

Second Sunday Initiatives (SSI)
These runs take place on the 2nd Sunday of each month and are for full members to come together for a progressive ride. For further details, destination, meeting point, leader/contact please see the LAM forum, Tracker and the Events Diary.

Training Events (Check Forum/Tracker for further information)

The Norfolk Weekend Residential Training Course, Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th April. 
For Associates this is a great opportunity for 3 days riding including ORs and feedback which will give your training a massive boost and set you up well for a test in the summer. It’s also a great way to get to know other members and swap stories and experiences.

Full Members are also welcome. A fun filled 3 days of riding and socialising with your mates plus an opportunity for an OR or to follow an observer carrying out an OR.

The Kent Weekend, Non Residential Course, 2 days training Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th July
Aimed mainly at Associates and offers a great opportunity to condense a number of ORs into 2 days.

The Wales Weekend Residential Training Course, Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th September.
Various training and group rides through the Brecon Beacons and the surrounding area with plenty of opportunity for ORs or social rides.

Group Riding
Learn the best way to make safe progress whilst riding in a group. An invaluable preparation for our group rides, AORs, SSIs and essential if you intend to participate in any of our foreign trips. The course covers the theory of advanced group riding, positioning, marking junctions with practical sessions.

Machine Control Day (MCD) – Sunday 10th April and Sunday 18th September
The MCD covers basic manoeuvering exercises, slow speed control, figures of eight, introduction to countersteering, effective braking, how to pick up your bike if you drop it, how to park your bike in and extract it from tight spaces.

First Aid for Motorcyclists – Sunday 20th March and Sunday 16th October
A one day course of essential first aid skills for bikers.

Dr Dave’s Workshop Day – Sunday 24th January and Sunday 17th April
Learn how to carry out regular safety checks on your bike and good maintenance practises. There will also be the opportunity to hone your puncture repair techniques ‘under laboratory conditions’.

Social Runs/Events 2016

Start of Summer Run – Sunday 27th March
End of Summer Run – Sunday 30th October
Members Social Rides – Sundays – 17th April, 15th May, 19th June, 31st July, 28th August, 18th September.
