Café of the Month – The Lazy Shack, Hythe, Kent

Located at the end of Range Road Hythe CT21 6HG the Lazy Shack is one of the new generation of casual but upmarket seaside food places which have sprung up along the south coast. It’s by no means a biker spot but you can park up easily enough in the adjacent street and join the locals queuing for breakfast, coffee or lunch.

I visited prior to lockdown but it was still just doing takeaway only, which I imagine will remain the case till mid-April. In fine weather you can sit on the nearby benches and enjoy your food overlooking the channel.

Food is excellent if a little more than you might pay elsewhere. Small Full English is £7.00, or for something different kedgeree and poached egg £8.95. As it was lunchtime I had a delicious scallop and bacon baguette £7.50. Fish and chips is a tenner or you could push the boat out for lobster and chips at £20. There’s a fishmonger/farm shop at the back to buy your dinner party supplies, but I didn’t investigate this.

Definitely worth a visit if you’re exploring this part of Kent.
