Café of the month The Station Café, Alton Hampshire

I was there pre-lockdown at the beginning of December and there was a pleasant vibe but reasonable Covid precautions with hand sanitiser available. I understand that they’re now doing take-away breakfast baguettes etc. if you’re in the area for some essential purpose.

Food is standard café fare – if you want sourdough go elsewhere, this is Mother’s Pride territory. My cuppa and bacon sandwich came to £4 and there’s a mix and match all day breakfast for around £6. Toilets are clean and overall hygiene seems good. I see from Facebook that they host Wednesday bike nights, so could be a good destination for an after-work ride on a warm June evening.

Also of interest in the area are the Watercress Line heritage railway, close to the café and Jane Austen’s house in Chawton, a short distance away.
