Predictably at this time of year riding motorbikes and doing what we do is a bit sketchy, cold temperatures, frost and the risk of ice away on the more rural roads are not conducive to staying safe and upright. So please don’t be tempted to take a chance, sling a leg over your bike and ‘give it a go’, that one ride can be over very quickly, trust me I know from bitter experience and there’s always another, better, warmer day for a ride.

So, what are the Committee and Training Team doing with their time you may ask? Well, that’s simple, the answer is lots and lots of thought, discussion, meetings and planning, probably a lot more than you might imagine.

We have listened and re-structured a version 2 PATTA package offering a better incentive to fund further training for the benefit of all Full Members, you will have seen the messages sent out recently. The surplus funds remain high, the original take up was quite low, so now we have PATTA 2, use it or lose it.

And in addition to that, a full review of new Observer training, existing Observer Development and Associate training. Some of the options on the table are going to take time to develop and implement but we want to invest the group’s money wisely to get maximum bang for our buck, so please work with us while we develop these new initiatives.

Why is this needed you ask? Well, we ran 632 OR’s last year with an average of 12 OR’s to get to test and would really like to reduce these numbers, even slightly, to conserve Observers time and try out some new initiatives.

We hope the changes will make training for Associates and Observers quicker, less arduous with less OR’s to test and a better overall pass rate, but, yes there’s always a but, we will be asking you to play your part in helping us to help you. There will be some changes and appreciate not everyone likes change, we might be asking you to take more ownership of your training pathway to safeguard Observer’s time, but equally you may get to pass faster and enjoy the benefits of full membership more quickly as a bonus.

But ultimately, we’d all like to have more fun riding our bikes and less time ‘in’ training to practice and improve upon what we’ve learnt, wouldn’t we?

Ride smarter, Ride safe and enjoy……
