Peter Gibbons led a small group of Members, many of whom had actually booked via Tracker, on a scenic ride through Kent to the Hook and Hatchet Inn, up on the Downs near Maidstone.
Conditions were cold – 7-9 C according to my instrument panel but visibility was good and roads were generally dry, though with patches of damp leaf mulch.
Following a comfort stop in Marden we arrived at the scenic pub in good time for lunch, though didn’t see any horses availing themselves of the free hay provided by the management. The group for the most part contented themselves with the pub’s well-filled steak pies.
There were no mishaps as far as I could see, with all riders adhering rigorously to the system. On the descent from the pub after lunch we did encounter a large tractor taking up the entire width of the lane but the young driver, evidently no debutant, organised the hesitant motorists and we managed to squeeze past, before completing the homeward ride.
Re-live the ride, or try it out for yourself by following the link below.
