Members’ Ride – and ride and ride!

LAM’s programme of rides for Members and Associates is now in full swing, all down to those who step forward to work out interesting routes and organise the rides, with appropriate fuel and refreshment stops. And no one has been more enthusiastic lately than ride leader Tim Watson who led a marathon all-dayer through the scenic roads of the East Midlands on Sunday 11th May.

Assembling at an unfamiliar starting point in Enfield we struck off up the A10, passing assembled bikes at the Silver Ball Café, overcoming some inevitable routing issues due to closures before reaching some more pleasant and challenging roads. We’d been going for around two hours by the time we stopped for fuel and then refreshments at the Castle Inn – excellent coffee, though most of the group opted for a (non-alcoholic) cold drink. We then spent a couple of hours riding the ‘Uppingham loop’, taking in some excellent technical roads and the scenic delights of Rutland Water and Harringworth Viaduct. Lunch was taken back at the Castle Inn, with a couple of us opting to head for home, others riding back through Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire, ending in Royston.

This was definitely a two, or possibly three tank ride, but what are the light evenings for if not for making the most of them. Yes it makes for a long and tiring day – but it’s refreshing to get out of the Kent/Surrey/Sussex rut.

    More like this please!
