The Flower Bowl Service Station is located on the A283 between Petworth and Northchapel is a charmingly old-fashioned rural petrol station with a hipped tiled roof and rustic wooden columns supporting the front overhang.

I was pleased to find that I could get E5 petrol for my classic bike, and they also stock paraffin and heating oil, not that that will be of much interest to most of us.

Inside it’s pretty cluttered and reminiscent of a corner shop, where you can buy some basic snacks and oils, bulbs, maps etc.

There’s a lawn to the front with some chairs but I’m not sure whether they are intended for petrol customers.

I didn’t ask about toilet facilities, but my guess would be that they have something round the back.

Verdict: worth it for the pleasant setting if you’re in the area and need fuel.
