A question was raised the other day about wearing Hi-Viz. Some do, some don’t and some choose specific occasions when and why, I’m certainly not advising one way or the other or telling you what you should or shouldn’t do, that’s your choice as a rider.
However, it’s a big topic and you’ll find dozens of web articles for and against, most of them are not scientific, some are dreadful or biased, but some do back up their theories with facts and well worth considering.
It’s not for me to sway you one way or the other, but I would urge you to do some research, review the facts, give it some thought and consider your options. It’s not compulsory, the Highway code doesn’t say you must (check out rule 86 and consider what it saying) you don’t need to follow anybody, you’ve got to think for yourselves, you’re all different, you’re all individuals (just for you Brian fans) capable of making reasoned decisions, so let’s hope we’re never told you ‘must’.
But, NEVER assume another road user has seen you even if you’re Hi-Vizzed up to the eyeballs or lit up like a Christmas tree.
What does it say in the ARC handbook or Roadcraft about safety, hazards, risk, danger, do you know? If not, start with human factors and consider your options.
Check out what’s going on in Tracker, look out for “what’s going on in LAM” courtesy of the MailChimp, read Progress and see you at a Group Meeting, AOR, FMR……….….and never complain there’s nothing going on for me……….……”I’m not”
Ride smarter, Ride safe and enjoy.
