Oh no it’s my turn to try to say something both sensible and interesting to kick off this month’s Progress! Well don’t expect any insights into advanced riding techniques, technical advances in bikes or kit or the latest guidance from IAM.
Instead, I’ll mention something I always carry with me – a cotton handkerchief of the kind you may remember your dad or possibly grandad keeping in his pocket. Resilient, adaptable and much more eco-friendly than paper tissues.
With your trusty hanky you’ll be able to deal with than annoying dew-drop that comes after a cold ride; you can clean your visor – and it won’t cause micro-scratches like paper towels do; you can dry damp hands before putting your gloves back on. Best of all, when the sum is beating down and your natural scalp-covering is scant or non-existent you can improvise a sun-hat, 1950s seaside stylie.
Are there any other everyday items that members like to carry with them – please let me know.
