You’ve been on BikeSafe – now try FireBike!

FireBike is our motorcycle safety initiative, through which Essex Fire and Rescue Service engages with motorcyclists on a range of road safety related subjects. This helps us to promote safer riding and reduce the number of motorcycling casualties in Essex.

Our key FireBike messages are:

- Become a better rider

- Train as if your life depends on it

- Protect yourself and your pillion

- Learn to share the road

We achieve this by delivering advanced training to the county's motorcyclists, to improve confidence and riding skill, making Essex riders safer on the road.

Essex Fire Brigade offer the above course free of charge to bikers who live or ride in the County.

I thought I would give it a go to see what I could learn to pass on to our own group at LAM.

The day was essentially similar to Police BikeSafe - but was presented in an even more professional way.

I liked the explanations given for the Saccadic Masking and Looming as well as Accidents that could have been avoided.

The afternoon was a 2:1 supervised session with advanced riders from Essex Fire and Essex Police (one of whom was on an unmarked bike that you would never suss out until the Blue lights were switched on).

I fully recommend any Associate to participate and sign up for this course - do it now.

Cost - Absolutely free! Yes, you are getting more than BikeSafe and it has no cost (Well there is a penalty charge for those that fail to appear).

It gets better! At the moment having completed the FireBike day you then get called up later in the year to attend further advanced training and it’s still FREE!
