Over many years, LAM has gradually built up sizeable surplus funds that the Committee has now decided to make available to all Full Members and Observers for the purpose of continuing to improve their motorcycling skills.

Every Full Member and Observer will be allocated a Post Test Training Allowance (PATTA) of £75.00.

The allowance can be used in full or part payment for ANY MOTORCYCLE TRAINING, whether organised by LAM, IAM or a recognised outside training organisation.  The major stipulation is that it must be something that will make you a better rider.

For example, you could use your allowance to pay for a BikeSafe day or put it towards an off-road or on-track training school.

There are a few rules that go with using your allowance and these are now updated following a review of the initial queries raised by the members:

    • The key word is “training”.  To qualify, an activity must include a clear and explicit training element.  The training must be something that will contribute to making you a better, safer road rider.
    • If you are in any doubt as to whether your chosen training will qualify for the allowance, please check with LAM’s Training Coordinator, Richard Bowden-Doylein advance of booking/ paying.
    • The training must take place between 1st March 2024 and 1st March 2025.  (It may have been booked and paid for before 1st March 2024).
    • You must book and pay for the training in advance and then claim your allowance (or the value of the training if less than £75) using the LAM e-expenses form once the training has been undertaken.
    • A receipt showing the training provider, the full cost of the training, the amount claimed, the date of the training and the member’s name must be emailed to LAM's Treasurer, Martin Chamberlain together with evidence that training has been undertaken.
    • If the training includes a test, the allowance may still be claimed even if the course is failed.
    • The course should be started in time for a reasonable chance that it may be concluded before 1st March, 2025.  If this becomes unlikely, further guidance should be sought from LAM’s Training Coordinator, Richard Bowden-Doyle.
    • Associates who pass their test before 1st March 2025 can also claim the allowance, subject to the conditions above.
    • We have listed all offers on the website https://l-a-m.org/pages/special-offers

If you have any other questions apart from what constitutes training, send an email to the Secretary HERE.

We have received an offer from a past Chair of LAM, Mark Jaffe.

    Hi.  Hope you are well.
Phoenix is happy to support this initiative and will give a further 10% off the cost to the course for those that book our off-road trail ride training days as this is exactly what we are trying to encourage with post test training

More details can be found at
